When one of our academic institution educating our children identifies a bully within their population, who is responsibility for handling them? Is it the school's responsibility to rid themselves of the offending person or people? What about the parents of the bullies? Should they be held accountable for the actions of their offspring? Also, at what age are bullies fully responsible and accountable for themselves? How far should the government be involved in our personal lives with respect to protecting our children in schools? Where do you feel these responsibilities fall? What criteria helps you make this decision?
Sometime soon, we as a society need act on ways to protect our youth. We also need to protect the many other young-adults in our society who have reached an age of adulthood, but still may need time to develop and mature enough to be able to stand up to bullying. These are some challenging questions that do not have cookie-cutter answers. But, if we don't ask them and work to resolve them...the are we not setting ourselves up for failure when it comes to building strong, confident, productive children who will grow up to be equally strong, confident, and productive members of our society. Given our current political, legal, and social climates - I feel that we may be decades from finding the answer to these questions.
