So, it's been challenging year economically and purchases have been made throughout the year off and on that have been placed on a charge-card. While it's my personal belief that those plastic rectangles come from the devil, sometimes making a purchase for an item that you must pay for over time is the only way to continue in life. So, you make the deal with that devil and then the payment dates come and they pass without sending in the payment to your creditor. Before you know it, the good intentions of fulfilling your obligation to payoff what is owed get too far behind and then your phone number is placed on that dreaded robo-dialing device that some random debt-collection agency acquired. And, let the harassing calls begin! What happens if your issue deals with an even larger issue like your mortgage or other major-debts? It makes no difference - that bully bill collector will come a-calling!
At first, they try to sound professional and understanding but then they get a bit more aggressive, and more aggressive. Then, it gets to the point where they're harassing and outright bullying for payment that doesn't even go to your original debtor! Or, perhaps the debt is paid but records get messed up and their accounting records do not reflect the correction and your information is sold off to a collection agency and you're still on their robo-dialing list.
How do you stop the madness and keep from being afraid to answer your own phone!?!
Within only a few minutes of research here in the Internet, I came across tons and tons of information on what seemed like a countless number of websites and articles about how to handle creditors. My favorite compilation of good workable information came from a site hosted by Clark Howard. Clark is a recognized authority and counselor for family/household financial management, has 23 different video articles about this very topic. 23 VIDEO ARTICLES on-topic!

If you'd rather read and do some of your own Internet research, here is a good written article that also outlines what you can do to get that bully off your back.

So what happens if you're being harassed by frequent telemarketing calls or being pushed hard by the telesales person on the other end of the phone line?
Well, there are a few things that you can do proactively to reduce the number of calls you might be receiving. Here's a website that lists out some of the various agencies you can register your number to reduce calls and even get information on how to recoup damages by taking legal action against abusive telemarketing companies.

All in all, there is not nearly the same amount of information and/or protection of people who are being hammered by aggressive (bullying) telemarketers and the companies they work for... If you have been successful at staving off telemarketers and would like to contribute your technique - please feel free to leave a comment!
